This is another vigorous, fast growing Asian vegetable with a very pleasant and unique flavour. It is often confused with Pak Choi and Bok Choi which are shorter and thicker stemmed and have a less concentrated flavour. The plant has red spoon-shaped leaves which form a thick rosette. It has a soft creamy texture and has a subtle yet distinctive flavour. It takes 45 to 50 days to harvest and can withstand temperatures down to -10°C. Tatsoi can be harvested even from under the snow. It will grow to around 30cm in height and has long spoon shaped leaves with a slender stem. This variety is an ideal plant for farmers markets. It is suitable for most Asian dishes and compliments the flavours of asian condiments. Sow at any time anywhere in Australia. It will tend to flowering earlier in extreme heat conditions but tolerates heat better than similar varieties. Sow the seed 0.5-1.0 cm deep in rich damp soil. Plant spacing should be about 30 cm but will tolerate closer spacing in rich soil. The rows should be 75-90 cm apart. It will be ready to pick in 45 days.
