This rare button squash has a delightful appearence with green and white stripes. The plants show good resistance to mildew, The squashes are typically about 12cm in diameter and are best picked and eaten at only about 5-7cm in diameter when they have a softer skin and can be cooked whole. When left to mature a little longer it developes a lovely texture and flavour and can be stuffed and baked whole in the skin and weigh up to a kilo. Mardi Gras has a bush type growth habit which makes it an excellent variety for vegetable plots where space is limited. It is a great variety for use in greenhouses or grow bags. It is a very early variety bearing edible fruit within 50 days of planting. Squash seeds should be planted about 1-2cm deep in rich composted soil and kept growing fast with plenty of water. Sow Oct-Dec in Cold and Temperate areas: Aug- Feb in Subtropics and Feb-Sep in the Tropics Plant the seeds about 1m apart in all directions or in rows, 75cm apart and in rows 1.2-1.5m apart.
