Pisum sativum var. saccharatum
This variety produces an abundance of sweet and tender flat pods which grow to about 10cm in length . The vigorous vines, with beautiful white flowers, will grow well over 2m in height and need a strong support to prevent lodging. Mammoth Melting exhibits a strong resistant to Fusarium wilt. This variety will produce edible pods in 65 days from planting. The pods have a sweet delicate taste and crisp texture making them ideal in salads and great for steaming. Snow peas should be planted in soil with high organic levels where possible but do not need high levels of Nitrogen which they can get from the air and fix in root nodules. Plant from Jan-Nov in Cold areas, from Feb-Sept in Temperate areas and from Mar-July in Subtropical and Tropical areas. Plant the seed 2-4cm deep, quite thickly, in rows 35-75cm apart and provide strong trellessing for support. Pick when small for the best tasting pods and in order to promote greater yields.
