These very fast growing onions are a round, glossy burgundy red coloured small sized bulb that transforms to a pink colour when cooked or pickled. They have a delicious mild flavour suitable for eating raw as well. They make a very attractive, lovely flavoured pickling onion when picked quite young, just under golf ball size. It is very productive fast growing variety and best used at golf ball size or picked earlier as a bunching onion. Sow in autumn and early winter. Onions like well limed soil rich in organic matter. Dig trenches 10 -15 cm wide and 5cm deep and then add fertiliser along the side of the trenches. Refill the trench and sow the seed in the centre of the previous trench. Final spacings of seedlings should be approx. 10cm apart, with a space of 30 cm between each row. Onions will be ready for pulling and storing approx 6 to 7 months from sowing seed.
