Ginko trees are reputed to be one of the earliest trees relating back 270 million years. They are reputed to live as long as 2500 years. The trees have long been valued as a food and traditional medicine plant. They grow 20-35m or more. The deciduous leaves turn a rich golden colour in autumn. These trees produce male and female seperate plants. They are extremely hardy and tolerate very harsh conditions. They grow best in well watered well drained soil with an acidic pH level. The slow growing seeds can take 2-3 weeks to begin germinating. They are best propogated by placing the seeds in peatmoss drenched with water but not dripping. Place the seeds wrapped in the moss in a cliplock plastic bag in a warm, lighted place until the seeds begin to shoot and have produced a couple of true leaves. Gently take the seedlings out of the bag and transplant into 100mm pots. Keep them well misted for a week to 10 days. After 3-4 months in the pots gradually introduce them to outside conditions. They can be transplanted into the garden at any frostfree period but prefer not to have to cope with hot dry weather until established. QTY 3 seeds
